The women’s organization at Bend Church is part of a larger, national organization that has been known as United Methodist Women since 1972. In March 2022, the national organization changed its name to United Women in Faith, signaling changes in how women live and choose to engage in the world of faith.
It’s not the first time we’ve changed our name. In more than 150 years in mission, we’ve had over 25 names including Ladies Aid Society, Women’s Home Missionary Society, and the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
Our new name, United Women in Faith, and new logo reflect greater inclusivity, action and impact. We remain women of passion and power, united by God’s love in our mission to support women, children and youth.
We have three active circles that provide a way to worship, study and be in fellowship together in smaller groups. We also have a group of members at large who choose not to join a circle. Any woman who commits herself to the purpose of UWF can become a member. Each year UWF raises money for local mission projects by organizing the Holiday Bazaar at our church and online. The proceeds are allocated to local missions such as Family Kitchen, Bethlehem Inn, Compassionate Care, and Open Door Ministries.
The Bend Church unit of United Women of Faith has three active circles that provide a way for women to meet regularly in smaller groups to worship, study, and be in fellowship with each other. Each circle has its own unique focus such as community service or spiritual study and growth. UWF members are not required to belong to a circle, but they are always welcome to join one that fits their interests and schedule.
